A LOCAL VOICE | CONVERSATION SERIES III | COLLECTIVE SCULPTURE
Houston's love for participation and conversation in projects is an essential aspect of her work, as it creates a space for genuine face-to-face interaction and reestablishes compassion in a world where strident individualism is encouraged online. Houston believes that collaboration and participation are critical components of art, as they provide a platform for diverse voices to be heard and foster a sense of community.
As part of this philosophy, Houston organized A Local Voice, a two-day installation and collaborative sculpture project at Two Queens Gallery’s Project Space, where local and national people came together, regardless of age and background, to create a piece of art. Many participants had no prior art experience, but Houston's approach to collaboration and inclusivity enabled everyone to contribute. The final artwork was exhibited as part of Summer Art Thread (City Festival) at LCB Depot and later showcased as part of an exhibition called The Crash in London. The expansive collaboration between Houston, local musicians, and participants reflects her commitment to creating art that encourages dialogue, fosters inclusivity, and invites people to engage in a shared experience. This project was supported by Arts Council England.
