Leila will be leading a project downstairs at Two Queens Gallery on 5 & 6 August, 1 - 3pm where she will set up several fun, creative scenarios and games at Two Queens Project Space. This will take place in a relaxed setting whilst making and creating individually and / or in groups.
By the end of the weekend, the space will be filled with interactions between each other, the space and the materials used.
These interactions will be recorded; echoes of thumps, crashes, steps and conversation will be later developed further by Leila collaborating with musicians and sound artists, culminating in a sound work and further installation pieces, responding to what has been made on the day.
Some of this collaborative artwork and the progression of her six month development will then be displayed during this year’s City Festival at LCB Depot on 26th August- Summer Art Thread as part of her ‘Austerity Today project’ (11am - 4pm) funded by Arts Council England . Summer Art Thread is part a Silver Vine Arts event and brings together the collective mix of Leicester’s creatives whilst in collaboration with national and international talent. On the day there will be arts and crafts stalls from (11am - 4pm), live music and spoken word provided by Myoptik (1pm - 11pm), art exhibited in light box and the back gallery and food (courtesy of Grays coffee shop & kitchen).
This project is part of Leila’s ongoing practice, which explores the importance of community and exchange in both art and our society at large.
